The selection of works contributed to next 1 by Kunsthaus Essen follows the idea of using representative positions in order to put new tendencies and exhibition formats in contemporary photography up for discussion. With Mirko Martin, Jason Evans and Mark Neville, we present three photographers who, with their works, initiate an image-based discourse with an aesthetic, artistic and sociological outlook, and at the same time make the medium of photography the focus of a self-reflexive examination. What they are asking here is: What kind of truth does photography convey? What is the meaning and the original value of images which can be only accessed via the internet, and of which unlimited copies can be made?
