Fake & Real

8 May – 5 June Galerie Schütte, Essen

Curator's talk with Rémi Faucheux on Saturday, 22 May at 18:00

The exhibition »Fake & Real« brings together the works of three contemporary photographers, Ville Lenkkeri, Mathieu Bernard-Reymond and Andrew Phelps who, each in their own way, examine the relationship between photography and reality. In the course of the 20th century growing subjectivisation, amongst other things, led to photography being less and less limited to the depiction of reality. The fact that photography increasingly considered itself an art in its own right was also one of the reasons for the development from merely depicting reality to reinventing it. In their works the three photographers play with our perception of reality – nothing in their works is fundamentally false, nothing is fundamentally real.
